Long time snowmobile and powersport event promoter Joe Duncan recently announced plans for a spring charity event at the famed Crested Butte ski resort in Colorado. Those who have been around snocross long enough remember Crested Butte as the location for the very first Winter X Games to host snowmobile racing. Leaning on his experience in organizing and hosting some of the biggest snowmobile events in the industry including the X-Games, Duncan and his Roost the Butte event will bring together several forms of snowmobile racing to Crested Butte with a festival atmosphere and grassroots appeal. The kick-off event, slated for this weekend, is more of trial run and a promotional tool for a much larger “roost” schedule for the spring of 2014. Best of all, the event will have a strong charitable element that will donate money to injured riders and their families. Here is the official word from Duncan himself. We will keep you updated on this unique event as it evolves throughout the summer months.
Crested Butte Mountain Resort and prominent snowmobile competition organizer Joe Duncan have created a charity with a fundraiser support event designed to help injured snowmobilers and their families. This charity is in its formative stages and the Roost The Butte event set for April 6-7, 2013, is the first of three annual fundraisers scheduled to take place at Crested butte Mountain Resort. Any and all profits from these events will go to the injured rider charity. A committee of industry leaders will be chosen to sit on the charity’s advisory board which will make the decisions on how to disperse funds to applicants or other recipients.
Roost The Butte will take place April 6-7, 2013, at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. There will be snowmobile events, competitions, demo rides, vendor displays, movies, parties and awards.
Crested Butte Mountain Resort has played a huge role in snowmobile competition history. In fact, they were the first host of the Winter X Games snocross competition back in 1998. While their support for the sport of snowmobiling has never waned, new ownership has brought the place back to life and they are backing this event for snowmobilers of all types by making this amazing location available.
The 2013 Roost the Butte event will be Regional-based and likely pretty small compared to the events that are being planned for 2014 and 2015. This year’s racing events consist of Hillcross, Hilldrags, Snow Ovals and Regional Snocross.
If you wish to participate this year and/or donate items for racers or as door prizes for spectators, as well as to get some general exposure at the event, please send items along with banners (approximate size 3 x 8) and stickers to:
Laci Wright (Att Joe Duncan)
500 Gothic Road
Mt Crested Butte, CO 81225
(please have items to arrive by April 4th)
If you are interested in donating cash towards the racer purse please send checks to 357 Inc., to the address below, in care of Roost the Butte. Crested Butte Mountain Resort has already committed $5,000 to racer purse and our goal is to get to $10,000. Every $100 adds up and this will help support the racers and their expenses.
As hinted at earlier, plans are to expand this event greatly as we move forward into 2014-2015. Future events will include at least 10 forms of snowmobile competitions and an array of other snowmobile related activities and events. If you wish to participate (in any form) in future events now is the time to start discussing it. We currently have three partners on board for 2014-15 and it is looking like categories for partnership will fill up fast. Hopefully this advance notice will allow for budgeting, proper planning and to create the most hype we can for this one of a kind event to close out the 2014 snowmobile season and create excitement for the 2015 season.
