Maria Ross is working tirelessly to fill the void in her life after her son Ross was killed in a snowmobile accident in 2016 on Great Sacandaga Lake in New York, he was 24 at the time. From the accident reports, it appears Ross struck unsuspecting rocks that were protruding above the frozen lake surface. The loss of her son has prompted Maria to develop a new app that will utilize GPS technology and user generated content to hopefully warn others of potential hazards like debris, rocks, or thin ice. Money is being raised for the development of the app through the Henry D. Ross III Memorial Fund; which in the past has also been used to provide snowmobiles to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The app is still in development, but according to Maria when finished it will have year-round capabilities, making it a valuable tool for boaters as well.
